Tutorial
This worksheet introduces students to graphs,
important graph terminology, plotting points (ordered pairs), elements of a good
graph and gives step-by-step instructions for plotting a graph. Specific
attention is given to developing uniform (equally spaced) scaling along the
axes. Practice problems are scientifically-based and help the student to
determine the best scaling, plot given points and draw a smooth curve to show
data trends. Students will also work with plotting signed numbers, decimals and
large numbers.
The Purple Math site has many links to explanations and practice applets for graphing. Go to "Create a Graph", where you can set up all the elements of your graph (of any type) and preview/print what the graph will look like. You can determine the title, labels, scaling and overall appearance of the graph. It is suggested you download Macromedia Flash to view graphs.
